A calf has been born recently that has the internet in bittersweet tears. This sweet baby cow was born with dicephalic parapagus. This is a condition when the line of “fusion” extends towards the tail from the lower abdomen. “Dicephalus parapagus are the parapagus twins with two separate heads.” This is rare within cows, but not completely uncommon. Unfortunately, cows born with this condition rarely make it into adulthood.
The videos of this sweet abnormal calf are going viral and bringing viewers to tears. Many are reminded of the melancholic poem entitled “Two-Headed Calf” by Laura Gilpin that goes,
"Tomorrow when the farm boys find this
freak of nature, they will wrap his body
in newspaper and carry him to the museum.
But tonight he is alive and in the north
field with his mother. It is a perfect
summer evening; the moon rising over
the orchard, the wind in the grass. And
as he stares into the sky, there are
twice as many stars as usual."This “farm animal sensation” isn't your usual internet trend. It shows a deeper side to the humans on the Internet. We are more than just an audience who has come to watch “the freak show.” We don't see a freak show. We see an innocent creature who deserves love and who gets to experience the wonders of life in a way we never could comprehend, and that's beautiful, however long that life may be. You can see this sentiment in many of the comments throughout this little guy's viral videos.
